Acupuncture Treatment for Cancer
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine are a part of Cancer treament in cancer centers all over the world, including Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York. Acupuncturists at Sloan Kettering treat patients in their hospital rooms as well as in their out-patient clinic. The Integrative MedIcine Service at Sloan Kettering is conducting extensive research into the efficacy of Oriental Medicine and Acupuncture for the treatment of Cancer.
They have found that a patient who receives Acupuncture 1 to 24-hours before and 24-hours after chemotherapy and radition had fewer side effects. They also recommend Acupuncture for pre and post surgical pain and anxiety.
Oriental Medicine treats the whole person, not just their Cancer. Cancer, no matter where it is in the body, is an energetic and physiological imablance and a body in balance is better able to heal itself. Acupuncture and Chinese Herbs rebalance the body, strengthen the immune system, address physical issues and supports the mental and emotional challenges of Cancer.
Having Cancer doesn't have to mean pain and suffering - even with chemotherapy and radition, the healing process can be made less traumatic with Oriental Medicine.
Acupuncture Treatment for Lyme Disease
Lyme Disease and its treatment can cause physical, mental and emotional symptoms. The treatment with an antibiotic such as Doxycycline for 4 to 8 weeks is absolutely necessary to fight the spirochete which cause Lyme Disease. During the treatment your symptoms can change. You can feel better
one day and worse the next.
Lyme Disease is not just about a rash, headaches and joint pain. The physical symptoms are individual, you may not be a text-book case. As an individual you respond to the spirochete and the antibotics in your own way. It is not uncommon to feel spacey or disconnected when you are fighting Lyme Disease. It can be difficult to concentrate and get things done. Your emotions can be affected and cause mood swings. Feelings of agitation, frustration and annoyance with everything and everyone can be another symptom.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine supports your healing process by helping you with the symptoms and side effects associated with Lyme Disease, as well as addressing your overall health. The number of treatments needed will depend upon how you are responding to the treatments, as well as the antibotics. Your general health and the length of time you have had Lyme Disease can also be a factor in your treatment plan.
Acupunture Treatment for Losing Weight
Oriental Medicine approaches weight loss in three basic ways:
- With Acupuncture the body is balanced, consitutional and health issue are addressed. By being balanced and healthy it is easier to do what is necessary to lose weight. Ear seeds are used to reduce the appetite.
- Life style is discussed, including stress, excercise, eating habits and body image. By taking a holistic approach the weight loss plan can be customized to you. Your goals for weight loss are approachced in context to your life.
- Chinese Herbal Formulas and supplements may be recommended in order to support the change in lifestyle. Specific foods may also be recommended. Food can be a medicine in Oriental Medicine.
Loosing weight is a matter of calories. 3,500 calories equals 1 pound gained or lost. You could eat only 2 candy bars a day and loose weight, but it would not be healthy and your body would think that it was being starved and your metabolism would slow. A slow metabolism not only makes it difficult to loose weight, but reduces your energy and can even cause depression.
According to "Prescription for Nutritional Healing" to determine how many calories you body needs each day you:
- Multiply your body weight by 10
- Then add 30% to that amount
By eating less than the number of calories your body needs, you will loose weight. By reducing your intake by 500 calories per day, you will loose weight.
- 500 calories x 7 days = 3,500 calories = 1 pound
When you have lost the weight you wanted to loose, you can redo the above formula to maintain that weight.
According to "Nourishing Traditions" by Sally Fallon, eating smaller amounts of real food is more satisfying than fat free and processed foods. Whole grains and vegetables are easier to digest when eaten with a small amount of fat. So for breakfast if you have a whole grain cereal with 1% Organic milk it would be easier to digest than with Skim milk.
If each meal and snack has complex carbohydrates, protein and some fat, your blood sugar will remain steady, reducing appetite as well as helping your body burn the stored fat. Your body will not think that it is starving and hold on to fat.
Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine can help in weight loss by making sure that you are healthy, sleeping well, and have plenty of energy as well as energetically reduce your appetite and food cravings.
